We were really chuffed to be invited again to perform in The Globe Inn, Dumfries and were delighted to do so. Lee Yeswithbellson and Oliver Sudden did a wonderful job with a massive programme of events with lots of exciting, eye-catching publicity. The hospitality we receive from the Inn is top quality with delicious pub food, great coffee and beer, and great company and fun! Oliver surprised us on the Sunday by doing a live-stream of music with the play slipped in. It was a bit like swimming in a fish bowl knowing everything we did was on camera! Now I know what the Osborne’s felt like! Thanks everyone at The Globe! Looking forward to next year!
We had the most amazing time in The Globe Inn, Dumfries at the weekend performing The Three Craws Gaun tae Rabbie Burns’ Birthday Pairty At The Globe Inn, Dumfries. It was something really special to perform this with my husband and two of my kids in the actual room our Bard Robert Burns wrote poems and discussed poetry in and may well just have had a wee dram or two. Congratulations to my substitute Craw 2 who has never done this before! I thought he was brilliant, and just seeing them jamming along as they do at home on live stream is pretty cool. With huge thanks to Lee Yeswithbellson Mcqueen and Michael Oliver Sudden for taking such good care of us, feeding us and doing all the promo work. Hope to see you again before we return next year for The WEE Fringe during the Big Burns Supper!
Steven Hill a wee mention of Dunbar T-Shirt Shop around 53 minutes in. Thanks for the wonderful service you give in providing our mugs & coaster sets, t-shirts, caps, badges, and anything you can make with our logo on.
Promoter for The Wee Fringe Oliver Sudden live streamed us to Facebook …

Previously appeared in The Scottish Storytelling Centre, Coastword Festival Dunbar and The Globe Inn with further scripts in the series.
With a very full programme for the Literary Festival and time being limited, P4 class teacher Janey Nicol suggested delaying The Three Craws script. She sent out forms with the children to ask families and friends for their memories of Cockenzie Power Station, and also for the children to describe their feelings and impression of the chimneys falling to the ground. This would form the basis of ‘The Three Craws An The Doonfaw O Cockenzie Power Station Lums’. I carried out research into the history of the Power Station and interwove this into the script. Coincidentally, a lead person that features in my book about the clipper ship City of Adelaidehttp://ritabradd.com/category/cityofadelaide/ was once a Manager of the Power Station.
I wanted to present the script in booklet form rather than A4 sheets stapled together that my troupe uses, for ease of handling by the children and for a professional look. I was absolutely delighted with the result, printed by http://www.dunbar.org.uk/lothian-printers/ .The scripts were delivered to the school in early June, along with badges for the children of families who took part in the research, and prizes for the most impressive contributions.
In November 2015 Cockenzie P4 children recorded ‘The Three Craws An The Bairn In A Manger’ in the school to be broadcast on local radio East Coast FM http://eastcoastfm.co.uk . Station Manager Ian Robertson came down to the school and recorded the show for transmission over the airwaves in the run up to Christmas. I was really thrilled to watch the children record for the show and to later hear it over the radio. My little troupe of The Three Craws with me as Narrator, have been a regular feature on East Coast FM during 2012/13 with several of my scripts. It’s been my dream to have children perform the scripts. The temporary Three Craws looked brilliant in their ‘The Three Craws’ skip caps which I gifted them for taking part.
Today I had news from Dunbar T-Shirt Shop that 3 sets of mugs and coaster sets have been sold. This is wonderful news. I spoke to a friend last night whose partner was working in a house and he was given a cup of tea … in one of my The Three Craws mugs! It’s really exciting to know that people are loving the artwork and are buying the mug and coaster sets. They are available through my website www.ritabradd.com under “Merchandise”. Later today I will be popping into Dunbar T-Shirt Shop to help with shipping the Mug and Coaster sets out, and to discuss expanding the range of products available to buy as t-shirts with the logo I designed on them. Remember (how could you forget!) … Christmas is coming … great presents for fans of The Three Craws!
Thank you for looking. I would like to say the price quoted by Dunbar T-Shirt Shop includes P&P within the UK.
P3/4 Teacher Katrina Tweedie kindly piloted The Three Craws An The Bairn In A Manger with her class. I was absolutely delighted to receive this feedback from her. Thank you Katrina!

I have been hoping to see you at the writers’ group to thank you in person for your generosity in sharing your play with me and my class.
We had been doing a topic on Robert Burns as you know, so I started by reminding the children of Tam O’Shanter. Then we sang The Three Craws which they already knew and love, then I outlined the play to them. I distributed copies of the play one between two and we discussed how a play script is set out. Then I read one page at a time with them following as best they could then asked for volunteers to read out and act out that page to the rest of the class. Most of the children wanted to take part- there were three or four who were happier being the audience for the whole play. Without exception they all loved the experience.
My class is composed of kids from all over the world, many of whom speak English as a second language. I think it’s a wonderful way to make them feel at home in Scotland teaching them some Scots and typically Scottish culture. For all of them I think it’s really good for them to see how we can build on traditional culture now…. and what a wonderful play! Thank you so much for sharing it with us.’
The Three Craws had a great time in Dumfries on 25 January 2015 celebrating Scots bard Robert Burns’ birthday! We were thrilled to do three rehearsed readings of ‘The Three Craws Gaun Tae Rabbie Burns Birthday Pairty At The Globe Inn, Dumfries’ on Rabbie’s actual birthday in his actual howff where he would gather for blethers with friends and also wrote poetry. Here are The Three Craws lined up from left to right:
Craw One – Wesley Bradd
Craw Two – Bob Mitchell
Craw Three – Melissa Bradd
This was our second experience performing beyond the studios of East Coast FM Radio 107.6, where we had broadcast a new play every month from December 2012 to September 2013, which was when we went to Bayeux, and Nicola Louise Shepherd was the original Craw Three.
I then went to Australia with clipper ship City of Adelaide and the Craws had a well-earned rest.
Steven Hill of Dunbar T-Shirt Shop http://dunbartshirt.com/ gifted me this for Christmas 2014 (available from Merchandise).
I ordered some Haggis Truffles (seriously!) from Thinking Chocolate in Edinburgh, stuffed them into the boxed sets of mug and coaster and took them down to Dumfries, where they galloped away faster than Tam ‘O Shanter’s horse, Meg!
We returned to Dumfries on 31 January 2015 for the close of the Big Burns Bash. Here are the Craws again, this time Craw Three is Alice Kinloch. This was her first ever outing as a Craw, and she did a fantastic job.
Here are The Three Craws outside Robert Burns House where we did two shows. Hugh Brydon http://www.hughbryden.com/ came along and I was really privileged and delighted when he presented me with this beautiful pure silk signed limited edition tie …
